Music Production
Composers, arrangers, recording engineers, editors, mixers and mastering engineers engage in the activity of music production to compose, arrange, record, edit, mix and master musical pieces (also known as tracks) with the goal of creating a finished product.
The Process:
Composing the song is the starting point of the production process. After that melodies, harmonies, and rhythms are created. Arranging follows, shaping the musical material into a structured piece.
Recording and Editing
Recording involves capturing performances of instruments, voices and/or sounds. Each recording must be planned to ensure the best possible quality and interpretation of the score. Editing is, when we have to correct any errors after the recording to improve the performances and equalize all recorded tracks.
Mixing and Mastering
Mixing or balancing involves twiking all tracks (e.g. volume, panning and effects) to achieve a balanced and realistic listening experience. The mastering of the mixed tracks is the final chapter of the production process. It is the process of necessary adjustments of the mixed tracks to sound the same and consistent and are distributed correctly over various platforms.
Collaborating with others artists:
Collaborating with other artists, musicians, sound engineers and various other professionals is an essential process during the production cycle. Through the use of digital audio workstations (DAWs) such as Logic Pro, Cubase, Nuendo, Pro-Tools etc. and with Virtual Instruments(VST), producers have new and innovative ways to create sounds and develop new ideas.
Skills required:
Music producers require a good ear and an eye for every detail during the production process. It's very important to have a little bit of knowledge of almost every individual musical instruments and how they work together harmoniously. It's a fast-paced, creative industry that requires imagination, skill and a love for music.
